Our culture and vision

About Central Bedfordshire Council

We’re an ambitious authority, determined to be an exemplary one.  We provide excellent quality, reliable services and our residents love where they live – 9 out of 10 residents tell us so.

We invest in our communities longer term with a significant capital programme to deliver some key infrastructure projects including roads, schools, leisure centres, care homes, independent living schemes, integrated health and care hubs, housing and much more. We have a reputation for getting things done.

Our values and principles

Our values and principles underpin and inform everything that we do. They describe the type of organisation we want to be and the principles that will guide us in achieving vision 2050 and our priorities. These set out the way we will work and interact with our customers, residents, Members, and with each other. Our values are:

  • Respect and empowerment – we will treat people as individuals who matter to us
  • Stewardship and efficiency – we will make the best use of the resources available to us
  • Results focused – we will focus on delivering the outcomes that make a tangible difference to people’s lives
  • Collaboration – we will work closely with our colleagues, customers, partners, and residents to deliver on these outcomes

The five key priorities and outcomes that will be our focus are:

  • creating opportunities for rewarding work, to address the challenges faced by more and more of our residents in work poverty
  • delivering quality housing, to meet the growing need, including affordable housing, where needed, for our residents
  • enabling people to live their best lives, and supporting people to be independent, ensuring that we keep focused on improving health and wellbeing and supporting independent living
  • improving educational achievement and progress, to improve social mobility and the life chances for all
  • making the best use of resources, working efficiently and having the most positive impact on our residents' lives

Whether you are starting your career or looking for a new challenge, Central Bedfordshire Council offers you the opportunity to make a real difference to our residents and businesses, personal growth and development.
