Maintenance Surveyor

Team: Asset Management

Job Family: Enabling - CBG11 
Salary: £38,479 - £41,632 per annum  
Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: To carry out this role, you will need to visit properties and land within your designated area of Central Bedfordshire (north or south) on a daily basis. You will also be expected to attend Priory House, Shefford as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month

Contract Type: Hybrid - Permanent

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Central Bedfordshire Council’s Asset Management Service who manage the Council’s Corporate, Commercial, and Farms estates.

 

We spend around £13.5m a year and generate an annual income of roughly £10.5m. Our estate includes 430 buildings and 3,600 hectares of land, (total asset value of £1000m), including leisure centres, libraries, health facilities, schools, industrial units, offices, and farms. Central Bedfordshire is split into a North and a South Area and an Operational Delivery Team has been allocated to each area.

 

The Maintenance Surveyors will be part of the Operational Delivery Teams and will provide technical advice, investigate building issues, conduct audits and inspections, produce specifications and cost estimates, and procure and manage contractors. You will work collaboratively with a diverse range of people and services, including other public sector partners like the NHS and the Police.

CBC are investing in new buildings, (recent examples include care homes, an integrated health and care facility and a Crematorium) and this post will be involved in mobilisation and the ongoing repairs and maintenance of these state-of-the-art facilities.

 

We are looking for someone who

  • Holds a building surveyor degree or equivalent (HNC, NVQ)
  • Has previous experience of carrying out surveying activities for reactive repairs and maintenance works.
  • Is personable and professional with good communication and customer service skills.
  • Is effective at time management and can manage a predominantly reactive workload.
  • Is good at identifying cost effective solutions to problems.
  • Can use the Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, etc) and CAD proficiently.
