Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.

About the role
We are seeking eight highly motivated Senior In-reach and Outreach workers to be part of our pilot project. It is an exciting opportunity to join our established Jigsaw Service as we expand the offer to reduce suspensions and permanent exclusions which have a detrimental effect on future outcomes for children. The Jigsaw Service, who are working in partnership with the Academy of Central Bedfordshire, are seeking eight Senior In-reach/Outreach workers to support children at risk of exclusion and suspension.
The Jigsaw Service is Central Bedfordshire Council's specialist Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) support service for schools, children and families. The service provides educational support for children who have been permanently excluded or are at high risk of permanent exclusion. This includes fulfilling the Local Authority's statutory obligation and offering in-reach services at two designated Jigsaw Centres. Through Outreach Support, the Jigsaw team aims to reduce school suspensions by providing direct assistance to school staff, students, and their families within the school environment. This preventative approach benefits the entire school community and mitigates the negative impact of exclusion on a child's well-being and future outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Tier 2 support to students who are at risk of suspension or permanent exclusion.
- This role will involve working directly with children in an In-Reach Centre (ACB or Jigsaw) or in schools.
- Support needs assessment and intervention planning, direct student support (1-2-1 and group interventions aligned with NAP).
- To work directly with teachers, support staff and parents/carers of these children to develop their understanding and strategies that work with these children.
- Attend multi-agency meetings.
- Support reintegration to mainstream setting.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience working directly with children and young people with SEND is essential.
- Knowledge of SEND statutory processes and SEMH needs.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Excel
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
