Salary: £33,371 - £36,397 per annum pro rata
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.

About the role:
Central Bedfordshire Council's Street Works Team play a vital role in ensuring our road network stays on the move by maintaining and enhancing our road network. Reducing congestion and lessening disruption to the public is a key role for the Street Works team. We are looking for a Street Works Inspector to support and deliver their objectives through the proactive inspection of road/street works across Central Bedfordshire. You will be responsible for inspecting works sites and ensuring high levels of safety.
With an accreditation in Street Works you will have proven experience in dealing with traffic management issues and a familiarity with reinstatement specifications. You will need to be well organised with effective communication skills and an awareness of relevant legislation.
As the team operates in a highly reactive works environment you should be able to prioritise your own workload, work to tight deadlines, be methodical in your approach, use initiative and operate with minimal supervision. This role is a frontline role and you will be expected to operate throughout Central Bedfordshire on a daily basis.
You should:
- possess excellent inter-personal and customer service skills
- be able to deal with a range of issues and conflicting demands whilst adhering to relevant legislation
- be able to deliver to tight deadlines and keeping calm under pressure
- demonstrate a positive ‘can do’ attitude
- Hold or be willing to train to acquire relevant accreditation
- Previous experience of street works and undertaking inspections
- Working knowledge of Microsoft including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, SharePoint
- Awareness of relevant legislation and codes of practice such as Highways Act 1980 and Well Managed Highway Infrastructure
- Hold a Full UK driving licence
This role will involve working out in the community as well as being based at highway depot in Thorn Turn, although flexible working allows for home working and working from other council offices.
