Salary: Teacher MPS/UPS £31,650 - £49,084 plus 1 or 2 SEN Allowances depending on QToD qualification
Hours0.8 FTE (4 days) Teachers pay & conditions.

Location: You will be expected to attend Harlington Upper School or Parkfields Middle School as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than 4 times per week.

More about the role: 

We are looking for a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QToD) or an experienced teacher willing to train to be a Teacher of the Deaf to manage Central Bedfordshire’s Hearing Inclusion Provision based at Harlington Upper School or Parkfields Middle School.

 

Central Bedfordshire Council is committed to supporting children with special educational needs. The council is looking to recruit a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QToD) or a qualified teacher who can commit to a two year on the job post graduate distance learning course funded by the authority, to take on the responsibility for managing one of the council’s Hearing Inclusion Provisions. You will be joining an experienced team of QToDs and Educational Communicators. You will have responsibility for the day-to-day oversight and management of the designated provision and direct line management of that provision’s staff. You will be line managed by the Authority’s Hearing Inclusion Provision Lead Teacher. This team is committed to greatly improving the lives of children within Central Bedfordshire.

 

In addition to outstanding teaching skills, the ability to use your own initiative and to think on your feet is essential for this position, as are competent self-organisation and time-management skills. You will be an inspiring manager with at least two years’ teaching experience. It is also highly desirable for you to have previously managed a team.

 

You will be compassionate and patient with a enthusiasm for making a difference and for continually developing and improving your practice. You will be confident in working collaboratively and supportively with teachers, support staff, external agencies and parents and carers, to ensure that d/Deaf students’ needs are understood and met. You will deliver lessons on a one-on-one basis or in small groups to meet the needs of d/Deaf students. You also will deliver CPD to school staff and provision staff as appropriate.

 

A British Sign Language (BSL) level 1 qualification or above is desirable as the BSL level 1 qualification would be required prior to achieving the Qualified Teacher of the Deaf status.
