Youth Careers Advisor

Team: Youth Support Service

Job Family: Supporting - CBG9

Salary: £32,441 - £35,107 per annum pro rata

Hours: 2x Full time posts - 37 hours per week

Base Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month

Contract Type: Hybrid - Permanent

About the role:

The Youth Support Service provides a wide range of services to support young people to achieve their potential and personal, social and economic success.  Services include provision of youth work, youth participation, the development and provision of careers education, information, advice and guidance (IAG) and engagement and tracking. We are committed to working in collaboration with young people to ensure they have a voice. We pride ourselves on being a young person led service working alongside them and partners, to support them in achieving their aspirations and goals.


Working as part of a dedicated and committed team, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of young people, aged 13-25 years old who have a range of needs, including Care Experienced young people, Children Seeking Sanctuary, as well as those with SEND and additional needs. You will use your excellent communication skills to build positive relationships with young people and to help identify and overcome barriers to their participation in further education, training or employment. Working to an agreed action plan and keeping accurate records, you will support their development and achievement. You will work closely with other agencies, post 16 education providers and parents/carers to support transition.

 

Tenacious, proactive and approachable, you will be a qualified Careers Advisor and have experience of working with young people in an IAG (information, advice and guidance) role.  You must be confident working on your own initiative, have excellent organisational skills and you will have sound advocacy and negotiation skills. Above all, you will have a genuine interest in working closely with young people to raise their aspirations and improve their lives.

 

Applicants qualified to Level 6 in careers guidance are highly desirable, but we will consider applicants with suitable experience that are qualified to at least NVQ4 in learning, development and support services/IAG or hold the Diploma in Career Guidance and Development. There will be an expectation that if you hold a relevant Level 4 qualification that you will be supported to undertake the Level 6 qualification.

 

You will require access to a car to be able to perform these duties and travel across Central Bedfordshire and neighbouring areas.
