About the role:
Service Manager for Youth and Participation
Central Bedfordshire is one of the top ten fastest areas of growth in the country. We are an ambitious local authority committed to creating opportunities for all young people and ensuring that all of our young people can reach their full potential.
We are excited about the launch of the government’s Youth Strategy, putting the views of young people at the centre of decision-making on policies that affect them, and using this as a driver to rejuvenate our local youth services. To reach our ambition, we are looking for an exceptional candidate to oversee our current offer, as well as accelerating our work in this field through the development of a Youth Partnership approach.
You will have a unique opportunity to strategically lead and influence practice and partners to improve outcomes for children and young people starting within the Council through identifying and overseeing opportunities to improve provision for young people both in relation to universal youth offers from libraries, culture, parks and leisure as well as more targeted approaches through seeking the voices of, and supporting our most vulnerable young people.
Our current youth offer focuses on helping all young people into education, employment and training; ensuring that young people’s voices are heard and influencing decisions and ensuring young people have the opportunity to access activities outside of a formal education setting. However there is more to do to ensure we can be even better, ensuring that young people from a range of different ages, abilities, experiences and backgrounds are fairly accessing youth provision and represented within our decision making.
The Youth Support Service Manager will sit within the 0 – 19's Support and Intervention Service, a newly developed service, including Early Years, Family Hubs, Holiday Activities and Food Programme, Domestic Abuse, and Edge of Care services, with creative and established managers as your peers. This forms part of the wider Early Help and Social Care Service within the Children and Families Directorate. You will manage 4 direct reports and a total team of 17 staff, and the relationship with, and performance of commissioned services.
We are looking for candidates with a strong record of leadership and delivery to apply for this exciting opportunity. You’ll have a relevant degree or a management qualification as well as significant knowledge and experience of the youth sector; this may be through public, private or third sector experience.
