About the role:

The Registration Service plays a key role in the lives of our residents by registering life events and conducting legal and celebratory ceremonies.

We are a small department committed to delivering registration services in line with statutory requirements to the highest standard, providing customers with professional attention and a positive experience.

To maintain our excellent reputation, we are seeking to recruit flexible and self-motivated individuals to join our team of Casual Registration Officers.

In this Casual Deputy Registrar role, you will work as part of the Registration Service team to deliver high-quality ceremonies across Central Bedfordshire. During your first year, you will focus on registering marriages at The Court House in Ampthill, approved venues and religious buildings in Central Bedfordshire, working alongside experienced registration staff. As your skills and confidence develop, you will progress to officiating marriages and civil partnerships as well as registering these events. We also offer a full range of non-statutory ceremonies that you will be part of as required.

This is a casual role, undertaken as and when required, to register or conduct ceremonies during the week and at weekends. Peak periods include school holidays and the summer months. You will carry out your duties with professionalism, integrity, and respect for others, ensuring the safe custody of registration schedules at all times.

You will be required to travel throughout Central Bedfordshire to attend ceremonies, together with sharing the responsibility for the collection and return of registration documents to the Register Office in Ampthill. You will be adept at working under time pressures.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a team player with a flexible approach and have an accurate eye for detail.  Educated to AS level or other level 3 qualification, you will bring your own experience and personality to this busy, rewarding, public facing role. You will be dealing with people at emotional times requiring a sensitive approach and an excellent communication manner with small and large groups.

Upon joining us you will receive the training you need to be able to carry out your duties with confidence and to effectively support your colleagues as a ceremony team. You will find your greatness here as you play your part in helping us to deliver this important public service role and be instrumental in ensuring our customers receive the individual respect, care, attention and service expected at the most significant times in their lives.

Please note that this position is not suitable for individuals who act as celebrants due to the legality of the requirements of the post.
