About the role:

The goal of our Reablement Service is to help older people live independently in their own homes, by giving as many people as possible an active life within the community. A small proportion of people will need and benefit from short-term care in a 24-hour bedded facility for the purposes of rehabilitation or recovery, where time is given to the assessment and consideration of options for longer term care. This could be in a rehabilitation facility, care home or hospice care.

We are making Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work. As a Unit Support Worker, you’ll have a vital role to play and will support people to maximise their independence.

Recovering from illness or a stay in hospital can take time – and make everyday tasks very difficult. As a Unit Support Worker, you’ll be there to help older people get back on their feet again. You will encourage people to regain skills and enable them to manage daily living tasks such as washing, dressing, and preparing meals for themselves.

As someone who’ll see our service users regularly, you’ll also be responsible for assessing each person’s particular needs. It’s therefore important that you have a good understanding of older people, those with disabilities and reablement. An NVQ level 2/3 in a relevant subject (or equivalent qualifications or experience) is desirable. Beyond this, you need to be organised, used to a caring role and able to work unsupervised. It’s also important that you’re good with people – able to put them at their ease and encourage them to improve. If you’ve got what it takes, you’ll have a highly rewarding role.

Please note that you’ll be expected to work to a set rota to alternate weekend working, this is a fixed term 4 week rolling rota and not flexible with what days are worked.

Join us and find your greatness by giving older people freedom and the chance to lead a fulfilling life.
