About the role:

Albion Archaeology is looking for an archaeologist who can demonstrate high level skills in the commercial and academic management of a range of historic environment projects. You should be self-motivated with excellent communication, negotiation, team working and people skills; and interested in working for an ambitious organisation in a challenging environment. This is an archaeological role requiring a relevant degree or equivalent and substantial experience of relevant archaeological work. Applicants should have a background within the historic environment sector and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the changing environment in which today’s commercial archaeological practices operate.

Member accreditation with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists will be required. We will consider applications from Associate members working towards MCIfA accreditation and with a realistic chance of obtaining that level in the near future. You will be supported to achieve this during your probationary period.

You should be able to take control of a wide range of different projects, all of which need to be delivered to time and budget with high archaeological standards and excellent levels of customer service. ·In addition to running archaeological projects, you will be expected to play a key role in the organisational management and strategic development of Albion Archaeology.

You will have management responsibility for a portfolio of projects, ensuring that quality, standards, and budgets are monitored, and the necessary corrective action is taken. A key part of the role requires you to monitor QHSE compliance across your projects, taking action to rectify defects and reporting upwards when required. We are expecting applicants to demonstrate good knowledge of health and safety within the construction industry.

You will lead project teams, line-manage staff, manage contracts and contribute to the general management and development of Albion archaeology. You will price and negotiate contracts under the oversight of the Operations Manager and you must be able to build up good business relationships with clients and other stakeholders.

This is a fast-paced job and would suit someone who able to work in stressful situations, solve complex problems and make timely decisions.

You may be asked to represent Albion Archaeology at professional and public events and to the media.

Albion works across the UK on projects that often require construction-based site hours. Whilst you will generally be based in the officer regular site visits and attendance at meetings will be required. A full driving licence, valid for UK, or the ability to travel to sites and meetings across UK is required, although in most cases this will be within the wider region.
