Corporate Fraud Investigations Officer

Team: Corporate Fraud

Salary: £38,476 - £40,069 per annum pro rata

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.

Contract Type: Hybrid - Permanent

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Council Corporate Fraud Officer, to join our Corporate Fraud Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in protecting public funds and resources across council services and partner organisations.

 

You will lead investigations into suspected fraud, theft and other irregularities across a wide range of council services such as Housing, Council Tax, Blue Badge and Care Payments.

 

This role is ideal for a confident and skilled Council Corporate Fraud Officer, with experience of using a variety of techniques in investigating fraud against a Council.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake fraud investigations, to the criminal standard, in line with appropriate legislation and best practice, using a variety of investigative techniques.
  • Undertake Interviews Under Caution.
  • Undertake visits to clients in their homes.
  • Participate in fraud events, such as Blue Badge Targeted Enforcement Days.
  • Produce comprehensive investigation reports.
  • Prepare cases for court and attend court where necessary.
  • Collaborate with external agencies such as the DWP and the Police.

 

About You

  • You will be a confident, well-organised individual with experience as a Council Corporate Fraud Officer.
  • You will have an analytical and interrogative approach to your work and experience in dealing with sensitive or difficult situations. 
  • You will be comfortable working with the public, solicitors and other professional bodies and have excellent communication and interviewing skills. 
  • You will have a comprehensive understanding of all the relevant legislation such as CPIA, PACE, RIPA, Fraud Act and PoSHFA.
  • The successful candidate will hold a Counter Fraud Accreditation such as the DWP Local Authority PinS qualification or CIPFA Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist Certificate.
