Our Revenues and Benefits Service is critical to our future success as it facilitates the billing and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates, as well as the assessment of Benefit claims and Free School Meals, ensuring that we achieve positive outcomes, in a sensitive way.

We currently have vacancies in our busy assessment team which is responsible for all aspects of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support, Council Tax billing and Free Schools Meals.

We are looking for self-motivated professional individuals with detailed knowledge of one the following:

  • Housing Benefit & Council Tax Support legislation
  • Council Tax

In addition to this you will need to be an effective team player, with excellent customer care and communication skills. In Revenues & Benefits you need a broad skill set, as you will be dealing with a wide variety of people, from council tax payers, benefit claimants and other stakeholders. You will need to be good with numbers, have an ability to interpret and explain legislation, and be proficient with using IT systems. You will also need to be able to handle correspondence by e mail, telephone or face-to-face on occasion.

This is a generic job and whilst post holders are likely to specialise in one or two key functions, officers will be required to flex across other service areas to meet fluctuating work demands and to achieve single point resolution whenever possible. It is not expected that staff will become expert in every area of work but will acquire a basic knowledge and understanding of the routine enquiries and transactions carried out across the wider Revenue & Benefit Service.
