Senior Highways Officer

Team: HIG - Traffic Management Highways

Job Family: Enabling -  CBG10

Salary: £35,992 – £37,536 per annum pro rata

Hours: 37 hours per week 

Base Location: You will be expected to attend Thorn Turn Depot, Houghton Regis and any  CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month

Contract Type:  Hybrid - Permanent

About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity within Highways Traffic Management for a Senior Highways Officer to join our team due to internal career progression.  We the aim to improve the quality of life for Central Bedfordshire’s residents by ensuring our highways are safe for the public.

 

As a Senior Highways Officer, you’ll find your greatness by helping to maintain and improve the road network of Central Bedfordshire, helping make it a great place to live and work.

 

We are looking for someone who leads by example, and who knows how to build partnerships that produce positive results. Ideally, you will be educated to at least HNC or equivalent level in civil engineering or other relevant discipline and will be able to demonstrate experience and training to successfully carry out the role. Internal and external training can also be provided for the right candidate.

 

You should be able to build good working relationships, drawing on your strong communication skills when needed. With a proven track record of managing resources in a large and complex organization, you’ll be IT-literate and a natural problem solver whilst always ensuring Health and Safety is paramount at all times.

 

In particular, you will have an understanding of highway hierarchy, how the highway is utilised and the priorities around keeping the travelling public moving.

 

Knowledge of relevant statutory regulations and the Council’s political/officer structures is an advantage along with knowledge of the Highways Act and Traffic Management Act. Delivering schemes under an NEC4 contract and experience in using Symology Insight is also desirable.
