Technical Accountant

Team: Corporate Finance

Salary: £51,471 - £55,585 per annum pro rata
Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.

About the role:

Are you dynamic, flexible, wanting to demonstrate your full financial acumen and find your greatness? An exciting opportunity has arisen within Corporate Finance to provide comprehensive and effective technical financial and accounting support, as well as providing advice to the Council as a whole. Corporate Finance provides financial advice, guidance and support on the implementation and development of all accounting, costing and financial management arrangements of the Council.

 

It will be a varied and challenging role, leading on all aspects of capital accounting, including:

  • Monitoring capital expenditure and the use of capital resources.
  • Overhauling the Council’s capital business planning process and ensuring its ongoing effectiveness.
  • Offering complex financial advice in order to optimise the Council’s financial position.

 

You will also be preparing the statement of accounts in accordance with statutory requirements, including the preparation of group accounts for the Council’s wholly owned companies and managing the audit process. As a Technical Accountant, you will be responsible for providing technical and capital accounting advice to the Council, ensuring any commercial decisions generate the best returns. You will need to stay abreast of all pertinent legislation and any new guidance published by CIPFA and advise on its likely impact and implementation within the Council. 

 

You will ideally be CCAB qualified and have proven financial experience in both management and financial accounting, with a knowledge of capital accounting and the statutory demands of compiling the year end statement of accounts. You will have the ability to demonstrate strong technical expertise, the ability to interpret complex and evolving legislation, and improve and develop the Council’s processes. You will need excellent attention to detail and high level organisation skills, working effectively to deadlines. As you will be providing specialist advice, you will need strong communication skills, good commercial awareness and be committed to evidence-based decision making. A positive and hands on approach is required with an ability to work alone or in a small team.
