Salary: £55,585 - £59,163 per annum pro rata
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.

Contract Type: Hybrid - Permanent

We’re looking for an Audit Manager to join our Internal Audit team at Central Bedfordshire Council. This is a pivotal role where you’ll lead and inspire a small team to deliver high-quality audits, fraud investigations, and consultancy reviews that make a real impact.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading the planning, delivery, and reporting of a diverse audit programme
  • Managing and mentoring a team of auditors, supporting their development and performance
  • Undertaking ad hoc assignments including irregularity investigations, consultancy reviews, and responsive advisory work
  • Personally, delivering or leading on the most complex and high-risk audits and investigations, ensuring quality and insight at the highest level
  • Building strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the Council
  • Providing expert advice on risk, control, and governance matters
  • Supporting the development of systems and processes that embed effective controls
  • Championing continuous improvement and innovation in audit practices

 

What We’re Looking For

A fully qualified auditor (CCAB or CMIIA or equivalent)

Significant experience in Local Government / Public Sector Internal Audit along with management / supervisory skills

Strong analytical thinking with the ability to see both detail and strategic context

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

A proactive, solutions-focused approach to challenges

Desirable: Experience in IT audit and/or data analytics – while not essential, these skills would be a valuable addition to the team and support our evolving audit approach
