Building Maintenance Surveyor

Salary: £39,769 - £42,922 per annum pro rata
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: To carry out the role you will need to visit properties and land within your designated area of Central Bedfordshire (north or south) on a daily basis. You will also be expected to attend Priory House, Central Bedfordshire Council’s main office, as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once a month.

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Central Bedfordshire Council’s Asset Management Service, a forward-thinking team responsible for managing the Council’s diverse and extensive estate, which includes Corporate, Commercial, and Farms portfolios.
Our estate comprises 430 buildings and over 3,600 hectares of land, with an asset value of approximately £1 billion. This includes leisure centres, libraries, health facilities, schools, industrial units, offices, and farms. With an annual spend of £13.5 million and income generation of around £10.5 million, we are committed to ensuring our assets are well-maintained, efficient, and fit for purpose.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Maintenance Surveyor, you will play a vital role in one of our two area-based Operational Delivery Teams (North and South). Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical advice and guidance across a wide range of building types.
- Investigating building issues and proposing effective solutions.
- Conducting property audits and inspections.
- Preparing specifications, cost estimates, and tender documentation.
- Procuring and managing contractors.
- Collaborating with stakeholders including Council departments, partners, and tenants.
You’ll be at the forefront of maintaining and improving Council buildings, ensuring they are safe, compliant, and welcoming for all users.

What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled professional who:
- Holds a degree in Building Surveying or equivalent (HNC, NVQ).
- Has experience delivering reactive repairs and maintenance solutions for non-housing assets.
- Communicates confidently with stakeholders and provides excellent customer service.
- Manages time effectively and thrives in a fast-paced, reactive role.
- Identifies practical, cost-effective solutions to technical challenges.
- Is proficient in Microsoft Office and CAD software.
- Full driving licence.
