Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: You will be expected to deliver sessions in a range of community settings across Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes as required. You will otherwise attend a CBC office location as often as directed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month, but significantly more regularly in the period covering induction and training.

Central Bedfordshire Council is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join the Choose You service, part of the Shared Public Health Service across Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire, and Milton Keynes. This is a rewarding role where you can make a meaningful impact by supporting residents to lead healthier lives through evidence-based interventions.
As a Public Health Officer – Healthy Weight, you will deliver targeted healthy weight programmes for adults and families across Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes. Using evidence-based Motivational Interviewing techniques, you will deliver Adult Weight Management groups and one-to-one family programmes to support sustainable behaviour change. You will also deliver antenatal and postnatal programmes to improve health outcomes for expectant and new parents.
This role requires flexibility, including evening and weekend work, to ensure the service is accessible to all residents.
You will be part of a small, dedicated, and focused team, working under the guidance of the Public Health Behaviour Change Practitioner. Together, you will deliver behaviour change support designed to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities across our communities.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as sessions will be delivered at community venues in Bedford, Central Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes.

Responsibilities will include:

Delivery of healthy weight programmes incorporating motivational interviewing techniques to encourage positive behaviour change, representing the Shared Public Health Team across Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes.

Adhere to established policies and programmes aimed at improving health outcomes for service users and reducing health inequalities.

Recording measurements, attendance, removal and completion of clients using Theseus case management system.

Collaborate effectively with the Health and Wellbeing Coaches, Client Services, and Behaviour Change Practitioners, to provide consistent practice and integrated service delivery.

Signpost clients using the Choose You Service to appropriate health support services to promote their wellbeing and escalate any safeguarding concerns as necessary.

Support service delivery such as co-ordinating appointments, maintaining accurate records, organising session logistics, preparing materials and ensuring venues are appropriately set up. Monitoring attendance, collecting feedback, and recording data for service evaluation.

Agree objectives with Behaviour Change Practitioner for ongoing professional and service development.

Attend in person training and team meetings as required.
Qualifications and Experience

Demonstrable experience of successfully supporting and motivating individuals and groups to achieve outcomes.

Degree-level education and/or relevant professional qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Previous experience leading and co-ordinating groups for customer focussed services.

Knowledge and experience in supporting residents with nutritional, behaviour change or healthy lifestyle interventions to reach desired outcomes.

Understanding of health inequalities and experience working with diverse populations, including ethnic minorities and individuals from deprived areas. to support the service and drive improved outcomes for residents.
