Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.

More about the role

Central Bedfordshire Council has an exciting role for an experienced and enthusiastic manager to work within the Choose You service, leading on training and engagement for the service across Central Bedfordshire, Bedford Borough and Milton Keynes. This post holder will contribute to the strategic development, planning, implementation and evaluation of training and engagement activities, to support smoking and healthy weight programmes that improve outcomes for residents.

Main accountabilities 

  • To work independently and be professionally accountable to the Public Health Principal Quality and Strategy, with devolved responsibility for lead areas of work in Choose You, including the line management of the Public Health Engagement Officers.
  • To make key decisions daily regarding prioritisation and management of members of staff and workloads. 
  • To supervise and support the Public Health Engagement Officers in the delivery of Choose You training and engagement programmes.
  • To measure, monitor and report population health and wellbeing; health needs, risks, and inequalities; and use of the Choose You services. 
  • To develop and implement policies and programmes to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities, particularly in stop smoking and healthy weight.  
  • To Lead on developing, coordinating delivery of and maintaining training to support delivery of Choose You, to improve outcomes for residents and reduce health inequalities.
  • To Lead on developing, coordinating and delivery of a plan to increase stakeholder engagement with Choose You.
  • To ensure that other providers of stop smoking and healthy weight services are consistent with the Choose You offer and enabled to deliver effective and efficient programmes support.  
  • To undertake health needs assessments, evidence reviews and health equity audits with minimal supervision. 
  • To be responsible for managing budgets and undertaking financial duties in line with Central Bedfordshire Council rules and procedures. 
  • To work in partnership with other statutory partners, as well as voluntary and community groups, to explore and develop effective ways of delivering Choose You to improve outcomes for residents.  
  • To work in partnership with wider Council colleagues to optimise and develop services delivered. 

 

Qualifications and Experience 

The suitable candidate will have:

  • Degree-level education and/or relevant professional qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Demonstratable experience of managing and motivating teams to achieve outcomes.
  • Knowledge and experience of stop smoking services or weight management services, public health, or population health at strategic level.
  • Experience of collaboration and influencing both internal and external partners to improve service provision.
  • A proven track record of delivering positive outcomes for residents or service users.
