Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.
Contract: Hybrid – Fixed Term until 01/08/2026

About this role:
Our Housing Solutions Service are looking for a Senior Homeless Intervention Officer to join our award-nominated and innovative Homelessness Intervention Team to provide a person-centred service aimed at alleviating and preventing homelessness.
We are looking for a driven, enthusiastic individual with a desire for enhancing development as well as improving the wellbeing of our customers.
Working in our Homeless Intervention Team, you will directly line manage a small team of officers, ensuring that day to day core statutory homeless duties is met and a comprehensive housing advice service is provided to vulnerable homeless households.
What you will be doing:
You will ensure clients’ housing requirements are in accordance with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Part 7 Housing Act 1996 (as amended), Equality Act 2010, Homelessness (Suitability of Accommodation) (England) Order 2012), and all other relevant legislation, are being correctly assessed in line with legal duties. You will achieve this by ensuring in depth knowledge of Housing and Homeless Legislation, including Landlord and Tenant, eviction proceedings Children’s Act and Care Act and an understanding of benefits/welfare system across the team.
In this role as a Senior Homeless Intervention Officer, you will manage a small team of Homeless Intervention officers ensuring that day to day core statutory homeless duties is met and a comprehensive housing advice service is provided to vulnerable homeless households and an effective and efficient customer service is provided by your team. Providing support and casework management assistance to Homeless Intervention Officers.
In addition, you will provide a comprehensive and specialist housing advice service to members of the public, while also responding to initial complaints and members’ enquiries. This will involve direct case oversight, ensuring that statutory deadlines are met and that best practice is embedded in day-to-day casework, alongside managing performance and attendance in line with HR processes.
The post requires management and leadership skills, a confident engaging and a diplomatic communicator to ensure the service can meet the daily demands of clients who are homeless, threatened with homelessness or in need of housing advice. You will be working as part of a friendly team seeking to provide person-centred housing options to some of the most vulnerable people looking for homes.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing a team, be resilient and thrive in a high pressured and fast paced environment, have the ability to manage incoming of housing demand whilst supporting the service to achieve strategic team objectives and KPI’s. You will also play a role in the development of other colleagues within the team by implementing a teaching hospital approach to deliver our training accreditation scheme. To achieve this, it is essential that you have qualifications or experience necessary to perform the job.
You will be required to work across the Central Bedfordshire area, and it is an essential requirement of the role to participate, manage and ensure the excellent delivery of the enhanced ‘Out of Hours’ homeless provision on a rota basis. You will also need to have access to a vehicle to occasionally drive to various locations.
