About the role

Financial Transactions Income are responsible for the management of all incoming payments into the Council, dealing with high volumes of transactions ensuring all moneys are allocated timely and accurately to the Councils budgets and customer accounts. They are responsible for administering users of the card payment system and ensure all data flowing in and out of the core Finance system keeps moving. There is a constant volume of work to keep everyone in the team busy and tasks are varied with everyone in the team communicating daily to ensure all tasks are kept on top of.

This role requires office attendance on a minimum of once per week, there may be occasions when it will be more often to help cover work when other members are on leave, but there is some flexibility.

As a Financial Transactions Officer you will work closely with other members of the team to ensure bank files are uploaded daily, ensure all Income systems are running as they should be and allocate all income transactions received from the different payment methods offered to the correct customer accounts or budget codes required. You will liaise with Council colleagues, other organisations, companies and Council customers regarding payment queries and ensure funds have been allocated correctly and efficiently. On occasions you will offer guidance to other Council colleagues on the income received and direct them to the financial guidelines and other departments, so knowledge of different payment methods and the different services would be required. As an income team member, you will be responsible for the set up and maintenance of new users on the Council’s payment system.

Administrative or financial background would be an advantage for this position, although training will be given to the successful candidate. Whilst you will be working as part of a small team, you will also be required to work on your own initiative once fully trained. Accuracy and efficiency is a high priority due to the nature of the role and there is a wide range of tasks to be completed, so this role would suit someone who likes variety and pays attention to detail whilst being efficient.

On the job, one to one training will be given and continued support is always at hand via teams or in person from the Team Manager or other colleagues as required.
